Brainspotting is a trauma modality designed to help people process through unresolved trauma. It is similar to EMDR, but different in that it uses 'spots' in a persons vision to process through trauma- not specific targets, just allowing whatever to come, come. These 'spots' are linked to trauma memories and charged emotions. The fixed eye gaze allows for deeper layers of healing, as it gives permission to embrace the stillness, and support the parasympathetic response - a sense of calmness, even when the presenting issue is activating.

Brainspotting taps into the body's natural self scanning and healing process. Identifying spots can look like certain facial tics, brown furrowing, yawning, coughing, pupil dilation, etc.

There's no agenda, you and the therapist 'follow the tail of the comet'- letting the process take you where you need to go.

Brainspotting sessions typically involve less communication than talk therapy, allowing the client to stay in the process by not having to explain what is occurring at each step. Trust and rapport in the therapeutic relationship is essential to the efficacy of this treatment. As such, your Therapist will need an idea of your overall desired goal to help understand you more fully, which may need a few initial sessions to deepen this trust.
